Couples counselling

Bring the issues in your relationship to a trained counsellor, so that each of you, and the two of you together, can see what isn’t working and what is needed to improve things.

Need to talk to someone now? Lifeline is open 24 hours on 13 11 14. In an emergency, call 000.

What to expect

Your counsellor will start by helping you get clear on what you would like to be different. From there, you look together at what is going on inside that gets in the way, and what it would take to respond differently.

All fees and questions
How much does a session cost?

Fees differ between counsellors. Each counsellor’s fees for individual, couples and family sessions are on their profile and on our Fees and FAQs page . Regular sessions are 60 minutes; your first session is usually 90 minutes and costs more.

Halaxy shows the exact fee, and your counsellor’s payment and cancellation terms, before you confirm.

Can I use a Mental Health Care Plan?

Not for counselling. Medicare rebates under a GP mental health plan are available for sessions with eligible psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists, but not counsellors.

If you have private health insurance, it’s worth asking your fund whether your extras cover includes counselling.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, with limits. Counsellors must act if someone’s safety is at risk or the law requires it, and information can be shared with your written consent.

All our counsellors receive supervision from an experienced counselling supervisor. Only initials or first names are used in supervision.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Each counsellor’s payment and cancellation terms are shown on Halaxy before you confirm.
