Counselling in Wollongong: Space to find clarity.

For individuals, couples and families. Talk with one of our counsellors at Central Chambers on Crown Street or online, and look at what sits underneath a difficulty, not only how to cope with it.

Two people walk side by side along the water’s edge of a wide sandy beach, under a pale sky with the sun low over the sea.

When something
feels tangled,
it helps to have room
to look at it.

We help you understand the context a difficulty grows out of, one moment at a time, so you can respond to it rather than only cope with it.

Healing Inner Conflict

Healing Inner Conflict (HIC) is a counselling framework all three of our counsellors work with, alongside their own training. It works with the parts of us that pull in different directions: the part that shouts at the kids, and the part that is angry with ourselves for doing it.

  1. Start with one moment

Rather than tackling everything at once, you begin with a single moment that disturbed you.

  2. Notice the signals

Your counsellor helps you notice what was going on: the thoughts in your head, the feelings, the tension in your body.

  3. See where it comes from

Together you trace how that reaction was learned, often in childhood or after a later trauma, and why it still shows up today.

  4. Respond differently

With the pattern in view, you work out what it would take to respond differently next time.

These disturbances are signals of healing trying to happen. In other words, not something going wrong, rather something trying to go right.

Our Wollongong counsellors bring HIC together with their own training, including Gestalt therapy, Process-Oriented Psychology and parts work.

Meet the counsellors

Fees and FAQs
How much does a session cost?

Fees differ between counsellors. Each counsellor’s fees for individual, couples and family sessions are on their profile and on our Fees and FAQs page. Regular sessions are 60 minutes; your first session is usually 90 minutes, so its fee is 50% higher than the hourly rate.

Halaxy shows the exact fee, and your counsellor’s payment and cancellation terms, before you confirm.

What happens during my first session?

Your counsellor will begin by helping you clarify your desired outcomes and what you would like to be different in your life. Together, you’ll explore what’s happening internally that may be getting in the way and what it will take to respond differently.

It can save time if you write down a list of your desired outcomes before your appointment.

Can I have sessions online?

Yes, you can have sessions online as well as face to face at Central Chambers.

How do I choose a counsellor?

Start with what you would like help with. Each counsellor’s profile describes their approach and fees, and most list the areas they work with.

If you’re unsure, call 0485 705 248 and talk it through before you book.
